And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Cor 12:9 NKJV
My name is Dave Remender and I am the pastor at Calvary Chapel Williams, AZ. Like most of you I presume, my path to where I am today has been a winding one. I grew up in the church and I remember accepting Jesus as my Savior at a very early age, probably about seven. Like many I walked away from the faith in my teen years and believed I had life by the tail.
My wife, Jo, and I have been married 39 years now. This is the second marriage for both of us, and about nine years into it severe challenges began. Fortunately, we both decided to turn to God. I humbled myself and begged Him for help, and He reached into my heart and began a work in me. It was the most important decision of my life!
God placed a calling on my life almost immediately. Jo and I found a church in which to be planted in 1990, and we began volunteering in youth ministry together. I also volunteered with the worship ministry. In 1999 I was called to be the worship pastor at our church, retiring early from my career in law enforcement.
When Jo and I retired together in 2008, we relocated from Southern California to Williams, AZ. We had already found Calvary Chapel Williams prior to moving here full time, and immediately started attending and serving there. Within a year I was ordained as the worship pastor, a couple years later associate pastor, and a few years ago senior pastor. My life callings are worship leader, teacher, and shepherd.
Jo and I have three wonderful children, each married. They have blessed us with seven grandchildren. Our life has been touched by God’s grace to overflowing!
Lord today we come to you and ask oh Lord your Blessing on all who you have been called to ordination today. Lord not by man but by you this was done. Lord, we ask to you help us all to stay focused on the tasks you put before us. Lord, we Know that we will be attacked for your name sake but that we constantly stand firm on your word for our support and guidance. We thank you Lord for all those you have put in our lives for support and guidance and ask Lord, that you bless them. Give us this day Lord that you have made and remind us that we do nothing and we are nothing without you. Let us be humble to your call always Lord Amen.
What brought me and Jeanne to Williams: There was an opportunity for employment on the Grand Canyon Railway and fortunately, we were both hired. I started on the Polar Express and before Jeanne was hired, she worked at Bearizona.
How did I get into ministry: It was soon after I rededicated my life to the Lord at the Billy Graham, Dallas TX, Crusade in 1971. After the crusade, I went to Bible College in Dunedin, Fl where I graduated in 1976. I started in ministry as a youth pastor in Salt Lake City, UT
I feel God has used me in the ministry at Calvary Chapel Williams as a Deacon who is supportive of his pastor and in bringing visionary ideas to the leadership of our church.
Attributes: A listening ear, spiritual gift of encouragement, team player and follow through of assignments.
I retired as an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Santa Maria in 2015 and decided to leave CA to a more quiet and peaceful area. I was saved in 1989 after being prayed for, for seven years. It was another three years before I started attending church on a regular basis. In 1992, I went on a Men's retreat, which changed my life. When I got back, I asked my pastor how I can serve. He introduced me to serving as an usher and about a year later, I became a Deacon. In 1995, I started Timothy's Pastorals program, which lasted 2 years. During that time, I became an Elder and served as such for 3 years. I went on staff at CCSM in 1999 and was ordained in March of 2000 as Pastor. I also became a certified Biblical Counselor and served as children's ministry pastor for 16 years. I also taught Sunday evening Bible study.
Clay and his wife, Dede, moved to Williams because it was the perfect place for retirement. Clay got into ministry when he started a small group ministry with the men from his past church out of Whittier, CA. They helped each other with personal problems and praised God together. They "escaped" California in 1988. Clay believes he will be able to add a calming strength to an already impressive board.
